WORSHIP SERVICE

The Worship Ministry at Cornerstone Church in Joplin, Missouri, exists to bring glory to God by leading others into His presence to be changed by Him through the venue of creative arts.

Worship is difficult to define, and it takes place in many different forms. One of the things we hope to communicate is worship is not something that only takes place in a "worship service." Worship is a lifestyle. The way we live each day for Christ shows our devotion to Him.

Worship is about a lot more than music at Cornerstone Church in Joplin. Songs are a great way to bring praise to God as a community each week, but songs are not the reason we meet. We meet to seek God and to praise Him for who he is and what He has done in our lives.

Most people would probably categorize the music at Cornerstone Church as "contemporary.” The style of music is not really the focus of our church, though. We hope to enable you to worship God in a way that is relevant and real to you.

Obviously, everyone is not going to have the same musical tastes so we try to select a mix of hymns and contemporary music with this in mind. We also seek to incorporate other forms of art, such as drama and media, into the service.

Jesus told us that the kind of worshipers God is looking for are those that worship Him "in spirit and in truth (John 4:24)." It is truly our hope at Cornerstone that you will be able to do this when you visit our church. When we encounter God's presence in worship, we believe lives will be changed forever.

CHILDREN'S MINISTRY

Our Mission for the Children's Ministry at Cornerstone Church in Joplin is to join together to raise our kids to become passionate followers of Jesus. We will do this by instructing and modeling the Word of God and its principles in an exciting and memorable way. By the time kids graduate into middle school, they will have a solid foundation in basic Biblical principles as well as a love for God and His Word.

We are here to equip families to encourage the spiritual development of their children at home. We encourage parents to volunteer with the ministry as well as to take an active role in the spiritual development of their children.

At church, we offer age appropriate services that help the children to learn the Bible in an exciting and memorable way. We do so by playing games that introduce and supplement each lesson that is taught in a way for children to understand. Each lesson is also taught in a way that is relevant to the students' lives.

Everything that we do here from Sunday School to VBS is taught knowing that God is at work in our kids and that they are learning how to become passionate followers of Jesus. We want the kids to see the Bible as fun as well as Truth. We also work with families to help children form a solid Biblical foundation for life.

YOUTH MINISTRY

Our youth ministry here at Cornerstone Church in Joplin, MO, is built on six core values: discipleship, community, evangelism, worship, service, and authentic faith. Everything from our curriculum to our goof-off time is designed to encompass one or more of these aspects.

We believe these six elements are crucial for our mission of developing a generation of Christ-followers devoted to the ministry of his kingdom. This is why we do what we do.

As much as we love students and care about their spiritual development, we realize that they are still just part of the work that God is doing through his church, and we want our students to understand that they are apart of something bigger than a youth group or a congregation. We want them to realize that they are apart of a global body that has been set apart by Christ himself.

That being said, we still want students to understand the specific value that Christ has placed on their being and his desire to have a personal relationship with them. In order to accomplish this, we believe it is necessary to create an inviting atmosphere filled with youth leaders who show the love of Christ through their personal relationships with the students and interest in their lives.

We strive to ensure that the youth ministry here at Cornerstone is about Jesus, for Jesus, and filled with Jesus whenever possible. This involves constantly adapting curriculum and programs to better suit the needs to the students and for ever improving the effectiveness of our ministry.

FOUNDATION GROUPS

We were created for community. Community is all about intentionally doing life with each other in meaningful and satisfying ways.

Whether you are new to Cornerstone Church or have been around for awhile we have a Foundation Group just waiting for you.

None of us were built to make it through this life alone. Spiritual development requires building real relationships with Godly people so that we can learn and grow together for the glory of God.

Foundation Groups are the primary venue for discipleship at Cornerstone. We gather weekly for fellowship, accountability, study, and prayer. These groups provide an opportunity to get to know people on a deeper level and to invest in each other.

At the heart of these groups is the desire to see a community of believers come to life and become passionate followers of Jesus.

Jesus did not do life by Himself. He called disciples to share in His ministry. Jesus was always inviting people in, to be a part of what He was doing in the world.

Foundation groups are an opportunity for us to draw in together to be a bigger part of what God is doing here at the church. Don’t wait, get connected today.

MISSIONS

The church is not a single building with four walls where people gather to worship. That is a church, but not the church. It is the responsibility of the church to look outside its four walls and invest itself in the mission of God.

Missions are often viewed as an overseas work done by super spiritual people. However, this is not the case. Missions happen every day in our country, in our city, and in our neighborhoods.

Missions consist of any work that is done to carry out the Great Commission we were given by Jesus Christ to make Him famous in every corner of the world. If that is in our neighborhoods, then that is where missions happen. If that is overseas in India, then that, too, is where Missions happen.

Here at Cornerstone Church in Joplin, MO, we believe that Missions should be a high priority in every church. Our focus on Missions is to invest what we can both financially and physically in every place that we can. We seek to support local Missionaries carrying out God's work here in Joplin, those who are serving the Lord in other places within this country, and of course, those serving internationally.

It is our desire to partner with Missions on every level to help bring the message of the Gospel to every corner of the world. If you are interested in learning more about our investment in Missions or what you can do help carry the Gospel to every person on this earth, please write to us on the Contact Us page.

PASTOR'S CORNER

What makes you a Christian?

When you stand before God at the end of you life and He asks you: “Why should I let you in to my kingdom?” What will you say? Often times our minds naturally start looking for the good things we have done. “Well God, I prayed every morning. I read my Bible regularly.” For some reason our good works have become our default mode for understanding righteousness. We think: “I should get into heaven because I lived a good Christian life.” You read your Bible because that is what a Christian does, but that is not what a Christian is. You pray because that is what a Christian does, not what a Christian is. You go to church every Sunday, but that is what a Christian does, not what a Christian is. What you do does not make you a Christian. When we think in these terms, we are defining our connection to God by our own works. If you think you are saved because you read your Bible, pray, or are a good person then you are simply not a Christian. A Christian is not someone who just does good things. A Christian is someone who has a real relationship with Jesus. You do not do what a Christian does you need to become what a Christian is.

What this means is that we do not just say we believe in Jesus and then do good stuff. We do good stuff because we believe in Him. Our motivation changes, our heart changes, our life changes. You are a Christian because you are born of Jesus Christ. You are a Christian when you give your life over to His authority and to His control. Doing good works doesn’t make you saved. Knowing the right things doesn’t make you saved, it just makes you a well informed pagan. Christianity is not about what you do, it is about who you are. Salvation is a result of humbly, honestly, coming to Jesus in recognition of who He is. A Christian is someone who recognizes that it is ever, only, always about Jesus.
